An Educator; Hero Of the Year

A hero (heroine in female) (Ancient Greek: ἥρως, hērōs), in Greek mythology and folklore, was originally a demigod, their cult being one of the most distinctive features of ancient Greek religion.[1] Later, hero (male) and heroine (female) came to refer to characters who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self sacrifice – that is, heroism – for some greater good, originally of martial courage or excellence but extended to more general moral excellence.

A word “hero” is a huge word for a person who was portrait to it.
In times of disaster or time in need, (especially the times when our faith and courage was tested by the typhoon incidents) many of the Filipino citizen and some foreign volunteers were bringing out the word “hero “in them…. Not just in words, but in act as well.

We portrait it sometimes as an angel that god brings us from above; or for some quite time, a knight shining armor who will save us from despair. (Actually, that is one of my wildest dreams when I was a little girl).

As this very moment, I’m still in a caught-myself-on an unknown rational feeling moment to my friend who was still cold at me for the unknown reason.

(I hope this article will help me calm at ease for a while)

Anyway, this year why so many teachers are nowadays were very likely to be killed by Abu Sayaf?
Is this the result of their pure sacrifices and efforts of giving the children the quality of good education?

I still cannot recover from what I have read from the newspaper that the number of teachers were being beheaded by many terrorist in Mindanao was growing and it still counting till’ the government can take away their butts and make some actions regard to it.

That’s when I recall what Conrado de Quiros said “there can be no profession that is more sensitive and important than being a teacher; there will be no profession in this world that can be gone than the teaching profession”

I wondered, if I became to what I dreamed to be… will I be take the risk of giving my heads to the Abu Sayaf just for the sake of teaching children in Mindanao whose education for them is out of reach.

Many sacrifices, time, effort, passion, and a lot of what is left of them even their personal sake; they give it all for us to become what we have to be.

Now despite of this tragic too-good-to-be-true destiny of this profession, someone that I knew that really motivate and wake me up to my deep sleep won the prestigious award that we couldn’t imagine that would happen.

I just saw him a couple of months ago, endorsing the “Ako Mismo Movement”. I knew his name, but I didn’t know who he is and what his contribution for him to volunteer in this advocacy.

Not until of what I read yesterday on the newspaper that among the many people who nominated, he became the most referred to a lot of voters and became the CNN’s Hero of the Year.
I’m talking about Efren Peñaflorida.
Compare to what Manny Pacquiao has done to our country, Efren has many struggles and trials before becoming a Hero.

And that is destiny to every teacher’s job in this profession.

Come to think of it, pushing carts all around Cavite area and some parts in metro manila area to ensure that street children can learn how to read and write without anything in return but an amp of appreciation and an assurance that they will stay away from the things that may harm their little minds.

Now that’s what I called a BIG SACRIFICE AS AN EDUCATOR!

He returns to his hometown with a big honor in his name and his Dynamic Teens Co. and after of all of this, even a lot of people were inviting him to go on politics, he was still want to live a simple and same as he started to be.

After the “ampatuan massacre” and many disasters that have occurred for the past few months, this is sure the real big thing that we surely make us feel grateful being a Pilipino.

CONGRATS EFREN AND THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME BELIEVE IN TEACHING PROFESSION AGAIN!

Now I truly open my eyes that you don’t need to have a big educational background and a doctoral beside in your name to become a hero.

All you need is a pure heart and mind to help each other the best that we can do to easily wake up and complete ourselves again after a long night sleep.

After of what happen to all the teachers and a principal who was beheaded, this award that Efren get will surely laid their souls in peace.

Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams; it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy!
